Canadian Rockies Festivals
The big outdoors is the year-round playground for many of the festivals and other events that call the Canadian Rockies home. There’s something for everybody, from celebrations of the arts, a triathlon, bike race, golf, snowshoe fun run, and so much more.

Banff National Park Snow Days, January 11 to February 9, 2014, beckons with outdoor activities, mountain films and stories, an ice carving festival at Lake Louise, and a ball hockey tournament, among many other adventures. Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2014, the Jasper in January Festival includes a street festival, live music, dogsledding and way more.

The Lake Louise Pond Hockey Classic brings the quintessential Canadian game to one of the most scenic places on the planet. The fifth annual shiny tournament is the first weekend of March 2014. Or strap on your snowshoes and enjoy a 5 km route around the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise for the Blitz Snowshoe Fun Run & Walk on March 8, 2014.

More than 500 cyclists from Western Canada and the United States will converge on the Rockies for the Banff National Park Bikefest June 12 to 15, 2014. They’ll compete in five race stages over four days, and there are also two family-friendly events.

Immerse yourself in heritage and performance art at springstART, an April festival that celebrates Banff’s roots and creativity. The Banff Summer Arts Festival runs mid-June through August at the Banff Centre, with a roster of outdoor cultural performances and exhibitions.

Get your toes tapping at the Canmore Folk Music Festival, at Centennial Park, August 2 to 4, 2014. The following month, Celtic spirit comes alive during the Canmore Highland Games.

Some of the world’s best mountain films, books and speakers take the spotlight for nine days each fall during the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival. The festival, at The Banff Centre, brings to life climbing adventures, mountain expeditions and some of the last remaining wild places on the planet.

All this adventure really works up an appetite. The Rocky Mountain Wine and Food Festival in May offers a tasty opportunity to try local and international wines, spirits and beer at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel.

Running right through November, the Winterstart Festival beckons visitors and residents to get outside, hit the ski hills and explore the shops, festooned with decorations for the holidays. Get into the spirit of the season with fun-filled activities during the Christmas in the Rockies event in early December. Don’t miss the Santa Claus Parade of Lights on Banff Avenue.

That’s barely a beginning. Click here to read more about the great festivals and other events in the Canadian Rockies.
